Inpatient and Outpatient Trauma Treatment

Inpatient Trauma Program

Our inpatient trauma program is ideal for those experiencing acute symptoms as a result of their trauma, such as suicidal thoughts, severe depression, thoughts of harming others, or other serious mental health crises that require a hospital stay to stabilize.

Trauma Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

Our Trauma IOP meets three times a week for several hours. The program is designed for individuals who have been hospitalized for any psychological or addiction issue and may require extra support when returning to their everyday life. Programs are also available for those who have experienced severe trauma, and those with persistent behavioral issues, personality disorders, and others behavioral and/or mental struggles.

Types of Trauma Treatment

EMDR Trauma Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an effective trauma treatment technique proven to reduce symptoms of PTSD. Therapists perform EMDR therapy during one-on-one therapy with a client. The therapist will move their hand back and forth, and the client will follow the movement with their eyes.

The purpose of EMDR trauma therapy is to have the eyes move in a pattern similar to what occurs in Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep. The client then discusses a traumatic event or memory while continuing to follow the therapist’s hand movements.

This therapy is proven to help the brain fully process the event, allowing other parts of the brain to store the memories correctly and reduce symptoms like flashbacks and hallucinations. This therapy is helpful for combat veterans, victims of sexual assault, and other PTSD treatment.

Trauma-Focused Therapy (CPT)

Trauma-Focused Therapy

Trauma-focused therapy is a generic term used to describe Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), which is essentially trauma-focused, one-on-one treatment with a masters-prepared therapist. In one of our mental health units, for example, a patient might receive trauma-based therapy if they are coping with the pain of being sexually abused as a child.

The brain can experience trauma due to a range of circumstances, including but not limited to sexual trauma, physical abuse, witnessing a traumatic event, disasters, grief, and many, many more. Integrative treatment of complex trauma includes CPT.

Focusing on trauma treatment and helping the patient resolve unvoiced emotions and incorrectly processed information from that event can help the patient through their acute symptoms.

This type of trauma-based therapy can be helpful for many different mental health concerns.

Trauma-Focused Group Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy is a combination of individual and group therapy, paired with training and homework for the patient. The treatment focuses on building skills that can improve interpersonal relationships. Several mental disorders can cause strife between the patient and those closest to them. Through trauma-focused DBT, patients can build a repertoire of skills to help them handle the side effects of their trauma and help them better communicate with their family and friends.

PTSD Therapy

Treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder can include CPT or DBT, depending on the patient’s needs. The goal of PTSD therapy is to help the patient cope successfully with their trauma and reduce the effects of the trauma on the patient long-term. PTSD-focused therapy includes processing through the trauma correctly and gaining the tools and skills needed to address the side effects of the trauma when they arise. Treatments like EMDR have been proven especially successful in PTSD therapy and trauma treatment.
